Riverside Emergency and Trauma Center
Located at Riverside Regional Medical Center
The largest facility of its kind on the Virginia Peninsula, Riverside Emergency and Trauma Center is staffed by physicians specially trained in emergency and trauma medicine. It is here that lifesaving care for critically ill or injured patients is delivered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Located on the campus of Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, it is the region’s only accredited Trauma Center. Riverside has over 340 medically distinguished physicians across nearly every specialty who work with our Emergency and Trauma physicians to diagnose and treat almost any type of critical injury or medical condition.
There are over 40 private rooms in the Emergency and Trauma Center for ill or injured emergency patients and two state-of-the art trauma bays. Because it is physically located on the campus of Riverside Regional Medical Center where physicians routinely perform open heart, brain, and orthopedic surgery as well as many other high levels of care, the need for emergency & trauma patients to be transferred to another treatment facility is eliminated.
The Center’s full range of emergency and trauma services includes two helipads where air ambulance helicopters may bring critically ill or injured patients from throughout the region.
LifeEvac Critical Care Helicopter
Air ambulance transports help save thousands of lives for victims of serious accidents and severe illness. Riverside, in partnership with LifeEvac of Virginia, provides this lifesaving service to our community.
LifeEvac is a helicopter air ambulance capable of flying up to 135 mph. It can transport two patients at a time and is staffed around the clock with a pilot, critical care flight nurse and paramedic. LifeEvac can quickly reach locations throughout the Peninsula and Middle Peninsula region, quickly transporting patients to the Emergency and Trauma Center at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Riverside Urgent Care
In addition to emergency and trauma care, Riverside offers urgent walk-in care at several locations. Urgent care services are designed to treat less serious emergencies and unlike Riverside’s Emergency Rooms, have set hours.
