Resources for Caregivers and Loved Ones

Helping HandsLibrary
Riverside Cancer Care Center’s Patient Library offers resources for caregivers and loved ones in addition to patients. There is also a children’s area for books helping children better understand the diagnosis of a loved one. Additionally, there are computers in the library where individuals can do online research. There is also a growing collection of books and magazines that have nothing to do with cancer that both patients and loved ones enjoy during treatment.

Spouses and Loved Ones
Prostate cancer is a disease that truly affects the entire family.  As prostate cancer hits at the intimate core of relationships, many couples find it helpful to reach out to other individuals who have been there.  Us TOO, a non profit organization dedicated to prostate cancer education and awareness, has a wide array of links to resources for family members and companions, including everything from free audioconferences on intimacy & prostate cancer, to online support groups to buying awareness bracelets. See: Support for Companions and Families.

Children
Many parents are worried about how to discuss a cancer diagnosis with their children – toddlers or teenagers.  See: Helping Children When a Family member Has Cancer.
