Riverside Health System, a private, not-for-profit health system, is the parent company of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital which opened on September 13, 1977 as Walter Reed Memorial Hospital. Riverside Walter Reed Hospital is a 67-bed acute care facility located in Gloucester, Virginia providing comprehensive services and state-of-the-art technology to the communities of the Middle Peninsula. The professional and caring staff embraces the Riverside Mission of caring for others as we would care for those we love. Hospital services include Emergency, Inpatient and Outpatient Surgery, Imaging and Laboratory.
Riverside Walter Reed's 30-plus acre campus includes the Riverside Wellness and Fitness Center, Middle Peninsula Cancer Institute, Riverside Home Care and the Riverside Physical Therapy Suite including Nutrition, Speech, Hand and Occupational Therapy. Specialty Practices and Services include Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Neurology and Sleep Center, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Physiatry, Urology, Vascular and Women's Health and Wellness. The campus also includes Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and General Surgery practices.
In addition, there are multiple Family Practice, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics offices as well as an Urgent Care serving the Middle Peninsula. Riverside operates several Convalescent Centers and Sanders Retirement Village, the only full continuing care retirement community in the area. Riverside also operates the first fully deinstitutionalized nursing home in Virginia – Heron Cove at Sanders.
