Stroke - Admission and Referral Process

The admission criteria is designed to allow for evaluation opportunities. Suggested guidelines:

  • History of a new cerebral vascular accident (stroke).
  • Patient is medically stable.
  • Requires rehabilitation nursing and therapy services.
  • Patient is able to build tolerance to an average of three hours of therapy per day or 15/week.
  • Patient is willing to participate and has potential to benefit.

Referrals may be made by physicians, social workers, or family members. After a referral is made, an assessment representative will provide an on-site evaluation of the patient. This initial assessment will be reviewed by a RRI physician to determine the patient’s rehabilitation potential.  A Riverside Rehabilitation Institute physician may elect to conduct a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Consult and either authorize admission or make a recommendation for alternative services.

Call our Admission Office at (757) 928-8181, (800) 262-3019 (in VA) or  (800) 367-6212 (out of state).

Riverside Rehabilitation Institute is nationally accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and has been a regional leader in rehabilitation since 1986.
