Admission
A patient's potential to benefit from rehabilitation services is the primary criteria used when determining admission to Riverside Rehabilitation Institute. Services are covered by most insurance carriers including Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross and many others. We will verify insurance benefits and pre-certify admissions prior to actual admission.

Referral and Assessment
Patients are accepted on a referral basis. Physicians, social workers, discharge planners, family members, or potential patients can refer individuals to Riverside Rehabilitation Institute. The Institute's Information and Admission Specialists can be reached by calling (757) 928-8000 or (800) 262-3019. A free assessment is scheduled by the Information Specialists for potential patients. The assessment can be performed in another hospital where the individual is receiving medical care, in the patient's home, or wherever it is most convenient. The completed assessment is presented to the Medical Director of Riverside Rehabilitation Institute, a physiatrist (doctor of rehabilitation medicine) who evaluates the information and, if appropriate, approves the admission.

Often the assessment takes place on the same day as the referral call and it is the Institute's goal to complete the process within 24-hours, including the evaluation by the Medical Director.
