Riverside Total Joint Replacement Program
The goal of joint replacement surgery (hip, knee, shoulder) is to relieve pain in the joint generally caused by arthritis and other damage done to the cartilage. Because the pain may be severe, you may be avoiding movement involving the joint. As a result, muscles around the joint weaken, making it even more difficult to move without pain or discomfort.
The good news is that total joint replacement surgery has been proven over four decades to relieve severe knee or hip pain and restore function in the vast majority of patients. In addition, new advances in prosthesis designs, surgical techniques, pain control and rehabilitation make surgery more successful with short hospital stays and faster recovery.
