Please arrive promptly for your office visit. If your physician’s office schedule is delayed, our staff will gladly offer to reschedule your appointment. If you find that you need to change your appointment, we would appreciate notification of our office at least 24 hours before your scheduled visit.
Fees, Billing and Insurance
We participate in most insurance plans including Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medicare, Champus and area HMOs and PPOs. As a service to you, we will file the appropriate reimbursement claim forms with your insurance carrier. You are responsible for payment of deductibles, co-payments and estimated insurance balances at time of your visit.
Please be aware that many insurance plans require pre-authorization and pre-certification before outpatient procedures such as colonoscopy and endoscopy can be performed. We will help to ensure that authorization is obtained. However, we need your assistance. Please alert us to the requirement of your health plan. If you are uncertain as to the requirements, call the number listed on your benefit card. Some managed care plans require a referral from your primary care physician. It is your responsibility to obtain this referral. If you do not have it at the time of your visit, you must sign a waiver and pay in full for your office visit. Payment will be accepted in cash, check or major credit cards. If you are uninsured or experiencing financial difficulties, please call our Business office at (757) 599-5556, so that we may assist you in establishing a payment schedule.
Your Medical Record
Your medical record is confidential. We do not release information about your condition without your permission. If you have specific advance directives, including Medical Directive or a Living Will, please provide us with a copy for inclusion in your medical record. Help us keep your medical record current by providing us with name and address changes, as well as changes in your telephone numbers, insurance carriers or referring physicians. To request medical records, please complete the RHS Authorization for Release of Protected Health Information (PHI) and fax it to (757) 599-9425, or mail it to 101 Philip Roth Street, Newport News, VA 23606.
If it is determined at your office consultation that you will need a procedure performed, our physicians have privileges at the following facilities:

You may receive multiple bills for a procedure including, but not limited to: Peninsula Gastroenterology professional charge, Riverside Regional Medical Center or Sentara Careplex outpatient facility charge, and Peninsula Pathology or Sentara for pathology specimen charge. The Peninsula Gastroenterology/Riverside Endoscopy Center's hours of operation are from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Our physicians maintain privileges at Riverside Regional Medical Center and Sentara Careplex. We provide admission and consultation services only at Riverside Regional Medical Center. We perform outpatient endoscopic procedures at Sentara Careplex.
During your hospitalization, your physician or a member of Peninsula Gastroenterology, will visit you daily to assess your medical condition and to make any required changes in your hospital regimen. Prior to your discharge, you will receive specific instructions for your follow-up care. If you have questions and concerns, please ask us. You will receive a separate invoice for all services provided to you during your hospital stay.
Please request prescription renewals during office visits, or call your pharmacist to determine if you have another refill remaining. We do not authorize prescription renewals in the evenings and on weekends when our on-call physician does not have direct access to your medical records. To assure our patient’s safety and well being, it is our policy to authorize prescription renewals only to patients who have an active record in our office, and have been seen within the past year.
To help us maintain continuity of care, be sure to bring all medications or a list of all medications that you are currently taking to each appointment.
