Riverside Medical Group Practices Earn National Recognition

J. Travers Edwards, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Edwards graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, he has a special interest in geriatric medicine, diabetes and current research in family medicine.

Dr. Edwards enjoys talking with his patients and meeting new people. He says, "I have often thought that family medicine is very much like a detective mystery. I assemble information in order to form a diagnosis." A natural curiosity has served him well in treating patients. He explains, "I have always wanted to know how things work and medicine has allowed me the freedom to study those things that interest me the most."

Charles K. Phillips, M.D.
Dr. Phillips received his medical education at the Medical College of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his residency at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Board-certified in Family Medicine, he has a special interest in helping his patients manage chronic diseases.

Dr. Phillips chose family medicine because he wanted to work in a diverse field. He says that Dr. Edwards, who is now his partner, influenced his choice. Dr Phillips knows he made the right decision. "I particularly enjoy working with patients of all ages. I feel a sense of loyalty and compassion towards my patients as I help them with their concerns and needs." 

Krystyna Caratachea, DNP, CFNP
Krystyna Caratachea  graduated from Old Dominion University and completed her training at Hayes Medical Center. She has a doctorate of nurse practitioner and is a certified family nurse practitioner. Her special interests are women's health, preventative medicine, weight control and management of chronic diseases.

Ms. Caratachea believes that family medicine is the right field for her. "I love the variety of problems and the diversity of family practice. I feel like it is the greatest gift to heal the sick."
