Javiar AmadeoJavier Amadeo, M.D. did his undergraduate work at Yale University, earning a bachelor of science degree, with honors, in 1990.  He completed his medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico, earning his medical doctorate in 1994, and then completed his surgical internship and neurosurgical training at the University of Puerto Rico, from 1994 to 2000.  He is board-certified in neurological surgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.  Dr. Amadeo is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, North American Spine Society, American Medical Association, Medical Society of Virginia, and the Newport News Medical Society.  He is also a member of the Puerto Rico College of Physicians and Surgeons.  He has special interest in minimally invasive spine surgery, brain tumors, and Gamma Knife. 


Wallace GarnerWallace Garner, M.D. earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia where he also completed residency training in Neurosurgery.  He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Garner has restricted his practice to office hours only. He does a high volume of spine injections including epidural steroid injections.



undefinedRon Gharbo, D.O. earned his medical degree at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. He completed residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.  Dr. Gharbo is board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.  Dr. Gharbo holds a particular interest in electrodiagnostic testing.



Dean KostovDean Kostov, MD is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (Pittsburgh, PA).  Dr. Kostov completed his General Surgery internship at the University of Pittsburg Medical Center, then continued at UPMC to finish his residency in Neurological Surgery.  In 2010 Dean finalized a Fellowship in Neuroendovascular Neurosurgery, also from UPMC and one of the nation’s leading programs in this endovascular subspecialty.  

Dr. Kostov is now an Attending Neurosurgeon and Neuroendovascular Specialist at Riverside Health System’s tertiary care facility, Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC) where the health system’s comprehensive regional Center for Neurosciences is centered.   Dr. Kostov is deeply involved in multiple aspects of the Riverside Center including cranial and spine surgeries as well as stereotactic and endovascular procedures.  His well-rounded interest and experience in stroke care, surgical interventions, less-invasive treatments, education and care of the "whole patient" are complimented by Riverside’s Center for Neurosciences progressive span of services.


James LesnickJames Lesnick, M.D.  earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, New York. He completed residency training in Neurosurgery at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Lesnick also completed a fellowship in Cerebrovascular Research at Pennsylvania Hospital. He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.  Dr. Lesnick holds a particular practice interest in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery and treatment of brain tumors.   



William McAllisterWilliam H. McAllister IV, M.D. was born in Norfolk and earned his undergraduate and Medical Degrees from the University of North Carolina. He completed residency training in Neurosurgery at Loyola University Medical Center and Cook County Hospital in Chicago.  He received additional training in the surgery of Adult Spinal Deformities at Rush St. Lukes Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. He also did residency training in Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. McAllister is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He holds a particular interest in complex spinal surgery. Trigeminal Neuralgia, surgery of brain and spinal tumors and peripheral nerve disorders.


Jackson B. SalvantJackson B. Salvant Jr., M.D.,  F.A.A.N.S., F.A.C.S. joined Hampton Roads Neurosurgical and Spine Specialists in 2012. Dr. Salvant earned his medical degree and completed residency training at Medial College of Virginia in Richmond.  Dr. Salvant is board certified in Neurosurgery(ABNS) and has additional specialty training in endosopic and minamlly invasive neurosurgical techniques and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery.  Dr. Salvant's interests include minimally invasive spinal surgery, brain and pituitary tumor surgery and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery.


Mary BanksMary Banks, CFNP is a certified family nurse practitioner. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science as a nurse practitioner at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

Michelle BozarthMichelle Bozarth, PA-C earned her Bachelor of Science, Life Science at Penn State University.  She earned her Master of Science for Practicing Physician Assistants from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia.


Glynnis DavisGlynnis Davis, FNP-C is a board-certified family nurse practitioner. She earned her Master of Science as a Family Nurse Practitioner at MCV/Virginia Commonwealth University where she also earned her Bachelors of Nursing.



Vince MertzVincent Mertz, MS, FNP-C is a certified family nurse practitioner. He earned his Master of Science as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Old Dominion University and his Bachelor of Nursing at Christopher Newport College.



Cheryl MillerCheryl Louise Miller, PA-C, MS earned her Bachelor of Professional Studies in Health Care Management at University System of New Hampshire and undergraduate PA degree from Kettering College of Medical Arts in Kettering, Ohio.  She earned her Master of Science for Practicing Physician Assistants from Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School and has been a board certified Physician Assistant since 1983.



Laura RipleyLaura Ripley, PA-C earned her Bachelor of Health Sciences at James Madison University.  She earned her Master of Science for Practicing Physicians Assistants from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.
