Using This Site

We are accountable for your care and that means patient safety and patient service is at the core of everything we do -- every day. This site is presented as a tool for you to use in evaluating the quality of care and service we provide. It is however, simply a tool and doesn't provide the entire scope of information needed to make the best care choices. It is important you speak with your doctor who can provide other helpful information you may wish to consider in making healthcare decisions.

Healthcare "Quality" and "Performance Measurement" 101

  • No two patients are alike, and assessing quality in healthcare, and comparing results of certain performance measures isn't an exact science. Make sure to speak with your doctor when making healthcare choices.
  • Quality or "performance measures" exist only for certain conditions that most often bring patients into a hospital. Similar standards for outpatient care have not yet been developed.
  • Most universally accepted standards of performance are established by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) based on an evaluation of clinical guidelines that when followed, yield the best medical outcome for patients of all ages.
  • CMS standards of performance results are publicly reported on a site called Hospital Compare.

Performance Results
There are several categories of performance measures you can view to see how Riverside performs against state and national averages. These are found by clicking on How We Compare

On the "How we Compare" page you will find links to performance measures including "processes of care" and "outcomes of care." Riverside performance results are noted in easy to read charts. It is on this page you will also find a link to Riverside "patient satisfaction results."

Comparing Results
If you wish to compare performance measures or patient satisfaction results to other hospitals, a link to Hospital Compare where this data resides, is provided on the How We Compare page.

Quality and Safety Initiatives
We continually assess how we can improve patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction. It is through these evaluations and surveys that we identify quality an safety initiatives. Please read  the quality and safety initiatives on which we're currently working.
