Performance Measures

A consortium of hospitals nationwide, including Riverside, voluntarily report certain performance measures and make it publicly available at Hospital Compare. Hospital Compare, the most widely used publicly accessible performance measurement tracking site, is an excellent source of comparative information but it is not the only source. We strongly encourage you to talk with your physician about a variety of factors that may have an impact on where you will receive the best possible care.

Measurement Period
Due to the compexity of the data gathering and analysis process, Hosptial Compare as with most reporting sites of this nature, reports data on a delayed basis.

What is Measured
Two types of performance measures are tracked: "processes of care" and "outcomes of care."

Processes of Care
"Process of Care" measurements track how well pre-established treatment guidelines shown to help patients recover more quickly and with fewer complications, are followed. Performance measures are established for those conditions that most often bring patients into a hospital for treatment and include:

Outcomes of Care
"Outcome of Care" measures track what happens after patients with certain conditions receive hospital care. There are two primary outcomes measured:

Other Quality Reporting Sites
There are other performance measurement reporting sites you may find helpful. These sites do not all report the same measurement criteria as Hospital Compare, and the time periods for which the data is reported may differ.
