"Our experience was nothing short of 5-star"
When my husband, Harry J. Haywood, collapsed on a job site in the upper part of Gloucester County, he was rushed to Walter Reed Hospital. It was the beginning of a journey that my family could not have imagined. At every step of the way, his caregivers were not only competent but also kind, from the Walter Reed staff that got him ready for transport, to the heart unit and medical ICU teams at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Everyone showed compassion, empathy and professionalism. Our experience was nothing short of five-star. - Holly Basta-Haywood
"I am so grateful for those nurses
being there that day "
Off-duty nurses at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital were in the right place at the right time to save a baby's life.
Ten-month-old Janiecia Snead had a seizure that left her limp and lifeless. Her father, Andrew, couldn't sit by and wait for the ambulance to arrive, so he raced his daughter to the nearby Melfa Volunteer Fire Department, where a group of nurses happened to be taking a re-certification class for Pediatric Advanced Life Support. They had just returned from lunch when Andrew sped up.
"So many factors lined up for success," said Annette Hempel, Nurse Manager for the RSMH Intensive Care Unit and one of the class members that day. "We were able to reposition the child and re-establish her breathing. It could have turned out differently."
The RSMH nurses who attended the class and assisted in Janiecia's care included Heather Arndt, Jennifer Boston, Crystal Harris, Jenna Henderson, Susan Henry, Cynthia Melson, Debbie Robbins, Aarika Turner and Cheryl Warren.
"God knows, I am so grateful for those nurses being there that day," Andrew said. "All I had to do was bring the child in, and they took over. God bless them all."
"I want to express my sincere appreciation and admiration for Dr. Richard Dunn "
He has been caring for me, my husband and several other members of my family for years.
My mother became very ill last fall and required major surgery. He has tirelessly monitored her treatment and progress for over a year now. I truly believe that he is the reason she is still alive today.
My mother cared for my grandmother, who had Alzheimer's disease, for six years. During that time, Dr. Dunn is the only physician my grandmother ever saw, and he treated her with the utmost kindness and dignity. When we needed Hospice services for her, he made it possible for us to make that transition without delay. The day I called to tell him that she had passed away he was genuinely sympathetic and offered his continued assistance to my family during that difficult time.
I work at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital, and I can say with conviction that he is one of the most compassionate, knowledgeable, dedicated physicians that I have ever met. We are very fortunate to have him as a member of the RMG team. - Angie Dove, supervisor, RTH Laboratory
