"We lived on the slopes of Mt. Haleakala on the Island of Maui for 24 years and on Oahu for 6 years. We were blessed with an abundance of friends among the multi-cultural fabric of Hawaii. We lived in Camelot and planned to remain there.
Some years earlier, a friend involved in formulating the concept of Patriots Colony called to let us know what was happening here in Williamsburg. He said he was sending an application and asked that we place our name on the Patriots Club Wait List. We obliged and estimated a moving date that was far beyond any thought we had of leaving Maui. To our surprise, that date arrived and we received a call from Patriots Colony informing us that "our number was up." At that time, we still weren't ready to leave.
Over the following two years, many of our friends began to return to the "Mainland," some to be close to family and others to move into Continuing Care Retirement Communities. Some had waited too long and were unable to enter a CCRC. We wanted to move in at an age where we could become a part of the life of the community and all the activities that are available.
After much angst and discussion we began an in-depth evaluation of our options for retirement communities. After several visits to various communities we came to the conclusion that Patriots Colony was the place for us. Our decision was made easy when the apartment of our choice became available.
