Riverside Emergency Physician Helping in Haiti
Before his first “real” day started, he rode in the back of an ambulance through the darkness that has become Port au Prince. Flashing ambulance lights provided the only means of sight to avoid tens of thousands of people traveling by foot and bicycle through unlit streets. Just a short time earlier while unpacking supplies in preparation for his first “patient” the following day, a critically ill young man appeared, his family begging for help. It was an early and sobering reminder of why he’d come to Haiti.
Dr. James Dudley, an emergency physician at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital and Board Chairman of Riverside Medical Group, is one of many physicians currently in Haiti supporting the organization, “Mission for Hope-Haiti.” Dr. Dudley is sharing his experience through blog updates he’ll post as often as possible.
