Hampton Roads Specialty Hospital accepts ventilation patients with the ability to be weaned. Long-term ventilation patients do not meet LTACH criteria on the basis of ventilation alone. Some examples of ventilation weaning or management admissions are:

• Ventilator dependent for greater than or equal to six hours a day
• Poor tolerance of weaning
• Uncontrolled coexisting diagnoses which impair weaning
• Respiratory insufficiency with documented slow progression or worsening

Treatment will include:

• 6-8 hours of direct nursing care per day
• Respiratory therapy
• Pulmonary assessment or management
• Continuous SaO2 monitoring
