Blood pressure tip: Know alcohol limits

Alcohol can be both good and bad for your health. In small amounts, alcohol can help prevent heart attacks and coronary artery disease. It may even lower your blood pressure slightly. But that protective effect is lost if you drink too much alcohol, generally more than one drink a day for women and more than two a day for men. If you're a heavy drinker, consider tapering off. And avoid binge drinking, even if you abstain for days or weeks first. Binge drinking can cause large and sudden increases in blood pressure.
