Vitamin C: Can it prevent colds?

In most cases, vitamin C supplements won't help prevent colds. However, taking vitamin C before the onset of cold symptoms may shorten the duration of symptoms. To ward off colds: 1. Wash your hands often. 2. Keep household surfaces clean. 3. Sneeze and cough into tissues. 4. Don't share drinking glasses or utensils. 5. Avoid close contact with anyone who has a cold.
