The partnership between Riverside and the communities we serve began in May of 1910 with a letter to the shipyard president asking for support to build a replacement for an outdated 25-bed hospital in Newport News, Virginia – a new hospital that would be called Riverside because its location was to be on the side of the river. With the help of the community, Riverside opened its doors in 1916. More than 100 years after a single letter was written, Riverside’s partnership with our community is stronger than ever.
