At Riverside Cancer Care, we understand that for those affected by the life-changing events connected to cancer everything else pales by comparison: priorities are refocused, life takes on greater meaning and value and – perhaps above all – time is measured less in minutes and more in experiences linked to progress and healing.
Because cancer is a disease that affects not only the body, but also the spirit, mind and soul, our approach to care can improve both well-being and quality of life for our patients and their families.
Our physicians, administrators, nurses and staff truly take to heart Riverside’s mission to Care for Others As We Would Care for Those We Love.
Dr. Mark E. Ellis Endowment Fund for Cancer Care Advancement
Through the vision and inspiration of the late Dr. Mark E. Ellis, we are able to carry out our mission by not only treating the disease but by focusing on the whole person – body, mind and spirit and by offering support, healing, and hope through Integrative Medicine. Dr. Ellis made Integrative Medicine an important part of his work at the Peninsula Cancer Institute, from where the therapies are now expanding to other Riverside care sites.
The Integrative Medicine team is comprised of certified oncology nurses, palliative care coordinators, certified massage therapists, a certified lymphedema therapist, a registered yoga instructor and a registered dietician, and also includes a music therapy coordinator and pet therapy. This combined approach to care, particularly where it involves managing the side effects of cancer and its treatment, has been demonstrated to enhance quality of life for a wide range of people, and has become a growing component of the Cancer Care program that is offered at no cost to the patient.
Every day, Riverside underwrites an average of $2,100 to provide patients with Integrative Medicine. Your gift to the Dr. Mark E. Ellis Endowment Fund for Cancer Care Advancement will help ensure our patients continue to receive Integrative Medicine Therapies at no cost. Give to the Mark E Ellis Endowment Fund now.
