It's a busy month. In addition to May being National Blood Pressure Month and containing National Women's Health Week, this time when the days get noticeably longer and warmer is also home to National Hospital Week, celebrated this year from May 6-12.

National Hospital Week has its origins as National Hospital Day back in 1918, and is designed to focus public attention on the many contributions that hospitals make to their communities – as well as a time to recognize and honor hospital staff. This year, the Riverside family of care has some special achievements to celebrate during National Hospital Week:

The Pavilion at Riverside : This 250,000 square foot, 3-story addition to RRMC represents an important milestone in the facility's transformation from a large community hospital to a true regional medical center with outcomes, programs, technology and staff gaining national as well as regional recognition.

Along with all-private patient rooms, new OR suites and a wide range of clinical resources, the new addition to RRMC brings with it a commitment to improving the patient and family care experience in an environment that supports and Riverside Care Difference while providing innovative inpatient and outpatient programs and services.

Riverside Doctors' Hospital Williamsburg : As one of the state's newest medical facilities, RDHW opens this month after extensive planning, design and construction that's helping Riverside move into the future in a part of the region noted for its history. The completed full-service hospital fulfills Riverside's promise to bring more healthcare choices and greater convenience to residents of central Williamsburg as well as the surrounding area.

Riverside Doctors' Hospital not only brings leading-edge care to residents in Williamsburg, but also a continuity of care through members of the medical staff who have already established a presence in the area.

As you congratulate your peers – and yourself – during National Hospital Week for the exceptional work carried out by Riverside facilities and staff all year long, you can feel an extra sense of pride in being part of the bricks and mortar commitment demonstrated in 2013 to the communities and the people we serve.
