Don't press that button! Take the stairs: This is one of those easy ways to get a few more steps and a little more physical activity in during the day but it's surprising how many people will take the elevator even if they're only going up one floor. I work at Regional and we have several elevators, so I have a lot of opportunities to walk up and down instead or ridetake the stairs. My general rule is to walk up two flights and down four, but sometimes I vary it. Even after the second set of stairs I can feel it in my leg muscles so I know I'm doing something good for my body.

I can't remember the actual amount of calories burned walking instead of taking an escalator or elevator. It's not much each time but it adds up and it's definitely something that's challenging your joints and muscles more. Even if it didn't, I enjoy feeling like I'm doing something physical instead of just standing and waiting.
