Glossary of Open Enrollment Terms
Your income after taxes has been deducted. Some benefit contributions are made after taxes are withheld.
Benefits Base Salary
Your salary or wages as of January 1st of each year. Benefits Base Salary does not include commissions, bonuses, overtime pay or any other extra compensation.
Body Mass Index (BMI)
A measure of someone's weight in relation to height.
A link that connects you to information on Riverside’s Intranet (such as the Benefit Plan Descriptions) or an online application, menu, or tool (such as Employee Self Service).
The amount of out-of-pocket costs that you pay before the insurance plan covers expenses. Once you reach the deductible you pay coinsurance or copays depending on your plan.
Employee Self Service (ESS)
Employee Self Service (ESS) is the on-line site through Lawson where Riverside team members can view their current benefits, view payroll information, make address changes, enroll in benefits during Annual Open Enrollment, and access other information.
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
Flexible Spending Account can refer to a Medical Care account or a Dependent Care account. Medical and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts offer the opportunity for you to set up a personal account with pre-tax dollars to pay for out-of-pocket medical and dependent care expenses.
Health Savings Account (HSA)
The account is funded by your pre-tax dollars to pay for covered medical expenses and prescriptions. At Riverside, you must be enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan to choose this option.
High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP)
A High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) is a type of health insurance plan. Most preventive services are covered at 100%. For all other services, you must pay the deductible before insurance covers healthcare costs. If you are enrolled in an HDHP and have no other health insurance, you may enroll in a Health Savings Account.
Long Term Disability (LTD)
Disability Insurance provides income protection if you are unable to perform your job due to an illness or injury that lasts more than 90 days. Eligibility varies by facility. Contact your Human Resources Business Partner if you have questions about your eligibility.
Primary Care Physician.
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)
A Preferred Provider Organization is a type of health insurance plan that allows you to choose your doctor without requiring a referral. In-network care usually will cost less than out-of-network care.

Certain preventive screenings and services are covered at 100%. Depending on your age and gender, these services may include immunizations, regular well-child visits up to age 21, and screenings for certain types of cancer. Covered screenings that you undergo because you have a personal or family history of a particular condition are not generally covered as preventive care services.
A Primary Provider (formerly called Medical Home) is a primary care provider that Riverside CareAdvantage PPO members select to facilitate their care and to develop a personal health and wellness plan. Primary Providers facilitate better access to health care, increase satisfaction with care, and ultimately improve health.
A radio button or option button is a type of graphic that allows the user to choose only one of a predefined set of options (see example).
Riverside CareAdvocate is a healthcare advocacy company that offers members one-on-one help to resolve health care issues and to improve health status through a variety of wellness coaching tools. If you are a member of a Riverside health plan, you receive Riverside CareAdvocate free of charge.

Spousal Access Certification
An official declaration on Employee Self Service of a spouse's access to a group health plan with his/her employer.
Prescription drug step therapy is a practice that begins medication for a medical condition with the most cost-effective and safest drug therapy and progresses to other more costly or complex therapies only if necessary.
