That means hospitals and healthcare organizations all over the nation are offering higher compensation, more educational opportunities, flexible work schedules, and other incentives. And there’s even more good news.

Every year, students will be able to pursue a career in healthcare through the Power of One Scholarship Program. This special opportunity has been created by the Riverside Health System Foundation for students to pursue their dream of a career in healthcare.

• Thomas Nelson Community College
• Rappahannock Community College
• Hampton University
• Other approved schools

What educational programs do the scholarships cover?

• Registered Nurse (RN)
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
• Radiologic Technology
• Surgical Technology
• Other approved programs

What areas of nursing exist within the profession?
Emergency, critical care, bedside, surgical, research, wellness and prevention, rehabilitation, psychiatric care, home care, administrative and management, education, long term care, physician’s office, recruitment, consulting, informatics, elder care, and more. In addition to the diverse environments for work, there is also a wide range of medical specialty areas in which nurses can gain experience and expertise.

When it comes to a career, you have a lot of choices. But when you think about it, most of them don’t really make much of a difference to anyone but you. That’s what sets nursing apart. As a nurse, you have the opportunity to make a good living anywhere in America and you also have the chance to make a good life by truly making a difference for the people around you. Now, the Power of One Scholarship Program makes the goal of nursing even more obtainable, and it comes at a time when the rewards of being a nurse have never been greater.

The Riverside Power of One Scholarship:

• Will be offered to students who will be entering their final year of a 2-4 year program. These programs include: all registered nurse programs, the Riverside Radiologic Technology program and other approved 2-4 year programs. (This does not include licensed practical nurse programs.)
• Students in 1-year programs will be offered an opportunity to apply for a reimbursement scholarship at the time of their graduation. These programs include all licensed practical nurse programs, the Riverside Surgical Technology and other 1-year programs as designated by the Riverside Power of One Scholarship Program.
• Scholarships are awarded to cover the cost of tuition, books and fees; not to exceed $7,500.

Criteria for a Riverside Power of One Scholarship Include:

• Completed application packet
• 3.0 GPA
• Positive Academic/Work Reference
• Positive Clinical Reference
• All students accepting a Riverside Power of One Scholarship award will be required to sign and adhere to a terms of agreement stipulating that Riverside Health System will be their first employer upon graduation; length of employment is determined by the amount of scholarship funds awarded.

Scholarship Application Deadlines:

For all 2-4 year program students entering into the final year of their program within the following months:

Starting Final Year January April July August/September

Application Deadline October 1 January 1 April 1 June 1

All reimbursement scholarship applications must be received by the Power of One Scholarship program within 2 months of the applicant’s graduation date.
