JOB SUMMARY: Works under the supervision of the Laboratory Director/Laboratory Supervisor. This position performs routine and special blood collections according to established protocols and standard operating procedures. The position is also responsible for explaining specimen collection procedures and instructions to patients, nurses, physicians, etc. The phlebotomist/processor may also be responsible for traveling to other patient off-sight locations to collect blood and transporting of specimens back to the lab depending on work site assignment. The phlebotomist/processor must maintain patient confidentiality and properly identify patients according to guidelines set forth by the facility (ie Patient Safety Goals). This position is responsible for maintaining proper inventory in the department and for keeping appropriate stock levels in collection basket. The phlebotomist/processor receives, labels, processes and distributes specimens to the appropriate work area in preparation for laboratory analysis. This position registers patients into the information systems and orders the appropriate tests as requested by the physician. The phlebotomist/processor is also responsible for printing, monitoring, and distributing patient reports to proper locations. The phlebotomist/processor is required to follow all quality control and quality assurance guidelines established in the department to include accurate performance of job duties with proper documentation. The Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for the planning, executing and evaluating the total Respiratory Care of assigned patients. The Respiratory Care Practitioner utilizes current evidenced based Respiratory Care Practice to care for each patient based on the psychological, psychosocial and cultural diversity. Works under the direction of the leadership team to provided respiratory services associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health System and facility goals and strategic plans. The advanced airway certified Respiratory Care Practitioner is expected to participate in the hospital and departmental intubation airway management program in such ways that will ensure at least 24 hour coverage. Responsible for assuring safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals, and supports best practices as recommended by the American Association of Respiratory Care. BLS certification required upon hiring and ACLS certification required within three months of employment and maintained/renewed within one month of expiration. Previous respiratory care experience of one year preferred. Must be able to read and comprehend, manipulate numbers, basic computer use and interpret data. Comprehensive knowledge of respiratory process and protocols. Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations. Able to performed assigned work within the designated time frame of the shift. Riverside Home Care provides services to our patients while they are cared for in their homes. This position provides instruction to patients and/or caregivers on the proper use of equipment and/or respiratory care procedures. Ensures patients and/or caregivers can effectively operate and maintain equipment. Responsible for routine patient follow-up contacts based on individual needs. Responds to emergency calls on an on-call basis. Provides and operates various types of respiratory care equipment including but not limited to oxygen therapy, nebulization therapy, apnea monitoring, suctioning, and CPAP/BiPAP. Inspects and tests equipment to ensure proper operating condition. Prepares and maintains a record for each patient containing all pertinent information, care plans, physician prescriptions and follow-up documentation. Consults with referring physician regarding patient treatment, medical condition and home environment. Participates in ongoing education and training sessions regarding respiratory patient care. Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor. Must be a Board Certified Respiratory Therapist or a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Current, valid Virginia licensure for RCP required. Current, valid drivers license and acceptable driving record required upon hire and to be maintained during employment. Must also have reliable transportation to make visits to patient homes each day. Prefer experience in home respiratory care or with six to twelve months of acute or critical care experience.

Works under the supervision of the Support Services tech and ED nurse manager and ED supervisor. This position performs routine and special blood collections according to established protocols and standard operation procedures.
