Job Summary: The CDI Director supports multiple acute care hospitals within the program for Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI). The CDI director implements and provides oversight for the organizational clinical documentation improvement program in an organized and standardized manner, to include the establishment of program success metrics. The Director insures the CDI team completes admission reviews of patient records to (a) evaluate documentation to assign the principal diagnosis, pertinent secondary diagnoses, and procedures for accurate and optimal DRG assignment; (b) evaluate appropriateness of documentation to support quality standards; (c) initiate a review worksheet; and (c) coordinate documentation queries to providers from all team members seeking to improve documentation accuracy (CDI members, Coding and Revenue Cycle team members, Care Management/Utilization Review team members). The CDI Director collaborates with HIMS, Revenue Cycle and CM/UR regarding education and support of providers. The CDI Director participates in the analysis and trending of statistical data for specified patient populations to identify opportunities for improvement. The Director participates in chart reviews as needed, conducts data and root cause analysis and provides feedback and findings with leadership. The Director recruits, hires and trains CDI staff that will function at the organization's hospitals and designs staffing programs, cross coverage, etc. that ensures efficiency and stability in the program. The CDI Director serves as an expert resource in reviewing documentation requirements for all payer types (CMS, RAC, Medicare Advantage, Commercial payors, etc).
