Walter Reed Hospital’s Cardiac Program  Receives National Certification

Gloucester, Va - Riverside Walter Reed Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program has met strict standards and been awarded National Certification through the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

“This recent certification honor reflects the excellent outcomes achieved by our cardiac rehab patients and is testament to the dedication of Dr. Peter J. Zullo, the program’s Medical Director, and the Cardiac Rehabilitation Staff including: Pat Booker, RCP, Supervisor, Danette Machen, RN, Coordinator, Melanie South, RN., Lauren Giddings, Dietician, and Angie Healy, Director of Education and Cardiopulmonary,” said Bob Bryant, hospital administrator.  “The process of certification, although strictly voluntary, is long and difficult but shows the commitment and determination this division has to providing the highest standard of care possible,” Bryant added.

The purpose of Riverside’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Walter Reed is to help patients recover as quickly as possible from a heart attack or heart disease so they may return to their highest level of functioning.  A medically supervised program, goals also include the prevention of future events or worsening of current conditions.
