Riverside Health System receives Health and Wellbeing Award for employee health initiatives

Nassawadox, VA – June 2013 – Riverside Health System was awarded the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association's Health and Wellbeing Award.  This award is open to member hospitals and health systems throughout the Commonwealth and honors organizations that engage in initiatives to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees while lowering costs, increasing efficiency, raising quality and maintaining a stable workforce.

This acknowledgement is in recognition of Riverside's CareAdvantage employee health insurance plan and its complementary wellness program, My Healthy Lifestyle.  In presenting the award, the judges expressed their shared belief that that the program "embodied a spirit of collaboration and cooperation," and that it "demonstrated exceptional commitment to the health and well-being of Riverside's employees."  The program offers significant health plan discounts for employees who reach measurable health and wellness objectives.

"Part of our mission is to improve the community's health, and it starts right here with our own team members," said Dr. Susan McAndrews, Administrator at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.  "We have invested in a financial incentive to motivate our team members to become healthier.  We encourage and support those who want to eat healthily, exercise more or quit smoking because good health is the key to a great quality of life.  It also is the key to a productive workforce.  It's the right thing to do for our community as a whole because our team has to be in tip top shape in order to do the hard work of fulfilling our mission to care for others as we would care for those we love," McAndrews explained.
